Four SWJA Students Place

Four Southwest Judo Academy Students Place at USA Judo National Scholastic Championships

 

MESA, Ariz., April 21, 2015

Southwest Judo Academy, Mesa, sent four junior competitors to the USA Judo National Scholastic Championships, and came back with four places.

Lewis Donnelly, Hamilton High junior, and Quentin Hovis, Setan Catholic Preparatory School sophomore, both earned Bronze Medals at this national tournament.

Donnelly fought in the 73Kg Male Division, ranked #5 nationally, and is a 2015 Arizona State Men’s Judo Champion. Hovis, competed in the 66Kg Male Division, also ranked #5 nationally, and is also a two time AZ state and US National high school wrestling champion.

Also competing and placing were Yuseph Houssni, 12, placed 4th in the 48Kg division, is a 2015 Arizona State Champ, from Chandler where he attends Tarwater Elementary School. Diego Thomas, 12, placed 4th in the 44Kg division, is a 2015 USJA Winter National Champion, placed 2nd at the Arizona State Championships, and attends Arete Preparatory Academy.

USA Judo is the governing body for the U.S. Olympic team; and Southwest Judo Academy is a non-profit judo school located in Mesa, AZ, dedicated to the advancement of Olympic Judo through the teaching, training, and coaching of students of all ages and skills. Their certified black belt instructors have a passion for judo and share from their own extensive and successful national and international tournament experience to build another generation of champions. They believe judo is a great sport that helps to build their students physically, mentally, and in character, both on and off the mat.
